Custom PVC Fabrications Easy
Working with HEATCON®, Fypon® has found a way to make jobsite PVC trim fabrications faster and easier for builders and remodelers. By placing Fypon’s PVC trim pieces between the heat blankets in HEATCON’s heat forming kit, building industry professionals can quickly heat up PVC pieces that can them be molded into custom trim pieces on the jobsite.
“Our heat forming kit contains everything necessary to heat and form cellular PVC trim board into custom shapes," according to Keith Skogland of HEATCON. “In about 10 minutes the blankets heat up the product so that it can then be easily shaped around a custom template that a builder or remodeler makes out of plywood. The pliable PVC quickly hardens again to the shape of the mold, so that building industry professionals can produce dozens of custom shapes quickly. These final pieces can be installed the same day. A contractor can make one custom piece of PVC or hundreds of pieces that are ideally suited for his specific project."
The heat forming kit from HEATCON contains heat blankets, a temperature controller, gloves, case and instruction manual. A precise temperature control on the heater prevents overheating of the PVC. An alarm signals when the material is ready, helping prevent guesswork.
“The heat forming kit unleashes limitless possibilities for remodelers and builders to custom create their own fabrications from PVC," says Greg Wolf of Fypon. “Since our Fypon PVC Trim pieces have a density similar to hickory and the same working characteristics as white pine, it’s amazing to consider they can be heated and made pliable in just minutes. I can’t imagine a contractor not having this important piece of equipment on the job site."
Fypon PVC pieces are consistent in density, color and size and come in sheets and boards. The water, insect, mold and mildew repellant pieces are ideal for exterior trim work projects such as door and window trim, soffit, fascia, rake boards, battens, pilasters, frieze boards, wainscoting and can be used on the building grade or with masonry.
The maintenance-free PVC product installs easily with stainless steel or hot-dipped, galvanized screws and hot-dipped galvanized nails. Fypon recommends using a PVC cement because it does not require air to set and does not leave voids. The adhesive dries completely in 15 minutes and patches and sands easily to provide a clean, consistent finished project. Fypon’s adhesive is also economical as it provides four times the yield of PVC cement.
“One of the best aspects of PVC is that each piece is one hundred percent usable," says Wolf. “There are no knots, voids or splits which can lead to waste and unsightly appearance. Combining this product with HEATCON’s heat forming kit gives installers the best of all worlds. They can create custom fabrications using durable, low maintenance PVC on the job site in just minutes."
