Decorative Millwork Adds Spark to Any Home
With the days of HGTV and DIY Network upon us, there are basics homeowners are bound to ask for these days: an open floor plan, tile backsplash, floor to ceiling glass showers, the list goes on. There are several easy additions using decorative millwork you can make to a home to add more spark to the interior without having to break your customer’s budget.
Adding faux beams to a home is a great way to create a focal point in a room. Beams can also be used in a variety of manners – as standard horizontal beam, crisscrossed in a pattern or as a full truss system. Fypon’s beams are lightweight for easy installation, plus their woodgrain beams can be stained to match the interior of a home.
Decorative crown moulding is another way to create the illusion that a room is larger and more spacious than it might actually be. Crown moulding is the classic execution but adding more interesting features like dentil moulding, brackets and corbels can create a defined look all of their own. Another unique option is adding a two-piece ceiling medallion around a light or ceiling fan, then painting it to add a pop of color to match the room.
Windows and Doors
It’s a given that door and window trim can help create curb appeal but have you ever thought to put crossheads and pilasters surrounding an inside doorway to create a transition piece? To create a different look, install a pair of brackets on either side of a window, insert a dowel rod and drape fabric to create a simple window treatment.
You can also create depth to the interior by adding window panels below the windowsill. Fypon window crossette systems, which includes a crosshead above the window, with or without a keystone, an exterior sill and trim around the window, creates a refined, clean look. Sunburst, acorn, peaked, rams head or arched pediments can be added above a window to create a refined, classic look with a little flair. The possibilities are endless!
Upgrade any room by adding chair rail, then paint above it or add wallpaper to create an elegant or fun feeling to the room, depending on the wallpaper you choose. Another way to add personality to a bathroom or kitchen is to add corbels to the top of cabinets, or update a standard kitchen island with decorative brackets or corbels as an accent.
If a home has interior decorative columns, it’s easy to faux finish those columns to match the interior design. Want to add that final welcoming touch to a home? Did you know the pineapple is the universal sign of hospitality? A simple addition to any home is adding a half-round or full round pineapple accent piece to an entryway.
