Western Builders Applaud Fypon's Southwest Collection
March 7, 2007 - At RW Specialties, faux beams in Fypon’s Southwest Collection are making a big impression. A distributor of Fypon products for more than 20 years, RW Specialties has seen a widespread eagerness from Colorado builders to incorporate the woodgrain textured beams into the interior of many custom homes.
“Four of Colorado’s most prestigious builders, Summit Chalet, Classic Homes, Keller Homes and S&S Homes are all using Fypon beams in their home designs and construction," says Keith Simpson, sales and marketing manager with RW Specialties. “We believe this will be a very strong product line for our customers to sell from each of our locations in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. While the faux beams are the ‘hot product’ right now, we think the brackets and several other items in the Southwest Collection will gain momentum in the near future.
“The authentic look of Fypon’s southwestern pieces is exceptionally appealing to our customers, builders and remodelers. More than that, the benefits of low maintenance, resistance to weather, rot and insects along with the ease of installation are all assets everyone can really appreciate."
In California, faux beams in the Southwest Collection have also been popular with several Lennar and William Lyon Homes projects.
“These builders are using the beams to add texture and accent to the ceilings in the Great Rooms of their projects," says Dan Brockington, president of Architectural Products Resource (APR) in Laguna Hills, California. “The beams really set these homes apart and add the perfect southwest feeling to their design styles."
Lightweight and easy to install, faux beams from Fypon ship in five days and are a cost effective way for architects and builders to enhance both the interior and exterior of projects. Beams can add drama to ceilings throughout the home by installing vertically or horizontally. They can also be used to create a coffered ceiling treatment when placed in grid patterns.
As with all Fypon products, items in the Southwest Collection have The Right Stuff™ --- they will not rot, warp, crack or peel. Each piece resists all forms of weather, making them perfect for the rugged southwest. Products in Fypon’s Southwest Collection are available in the following categories:
- Shutters – Five styles (three-board batten, four-board batten, two-plank, three-plank and diagonal v-groove) with realistic cedar woodgrain texture. Shutters are sold in pairs for standard window sizes and can be installed on a variety of southwestern-style exteriors including stucco brown coat, brick and vinyl.
- Decorative Millwork – Products include knee braces (in scroll, cove and straight styles), rafter tails in a bullnose style, corbels (in ogee, cove and bullnose styles) and L-shaped buried header mouldings. All pieces feature the realistic cedar woodgrain texture.
- Faux Beams – Available in the Mesa style (with a more subtle woodgrain texture) and the Tahoe style to replicate hand-hewn rustic beams. Each 20-foot length of beam is three-sided and open-ended allowing for flexibility in installation over existing structures.
- Beam Straps – Designed to simulate the look of authentic steel beam straps, Fypon’s urethane beam straps come with realistic nuts and bolts molded into the strap’s surface. Available in the Mesa style with a smooth appearance or the Tahoe style with a hammered, weathered appearance.
Each piece in the Southwest Collection is moisture-, insect- and splinter-resistant. The lightweight synthetic pieces are designed to complement stucco finishes and add both rustic texture and a bold, southwest feeling to any project. All pieces come factory-primed in a neutral oatmeal color ready to be painted or stained.
Fypon is the brand name leader in the synthetic millwork industry. Part of consumer products company Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO), Fypon manufactures more than 6,000 low maintenance and moulded millwork products. Each piece is made of tough, high performance materials that resist splintering, decaying, insect infestation, water penetration and absorption, for long lasting beauty and performance.
